Wardrobe

joycozy

These pictures were taken on a day when I just wanted to be comfy, so I took some ques from my style board on pinterest, and layered-up with a chunky scarf. It’s just a regular knit scarf that I tied together at the ends and wrapped it around like a circle scarf two or three times to get the look.

I think it’s important to invest in your wardrobe; to take the time and some money to make it work for you, and make you feel your best. Saggy jeans have been one of my problems post-pregnancy. My sizes kept changing as I lost the weight slowly but surely…in fact, I lost so much weight that I became smaller post-pregnancy then I was before I got pregnant with Asher!

Chalk it up to breastfeeding a high-demand baby, exercising, and a high metabolism, and the weight just came off. In any case, I didn’t realize that for the past few months I was wearing jeans a size too big, which resulted in saggy pants 5 minutes after wearing them. Frustrating! And I don’t care how much skinny is “in”, when you have saggy jeans you don’t feel attractive.

In any case, I took the liberty, and tried on, and bought a couple nice fitting jeans from target this past weekend. I feel like it’s a little counterintuitive when I just found out I’m pregnant, but both pants should still be in style by the time I circle back to them. Gotta think positive, right? So here is one of the pairs…good old leopard print. The other pair aren’t shown, but they are just your regular white boot-cut jeans.

For some reason the print washed out against our white door, so I zoomed in on the right photo so you could be sure it is a leopard print!

Chambray: Landsend Canvas / Skinny Belt: Landsend Canvas / Jeans: Target / Boots: Landsend Canvas

The pants fit so tight they didn’t sag after one day, and they stayed clean, so I went ahead and wore them again. Sorry if that offends some people, but I’m personally in the ballpark of people who think it’s cool to wear some pieces more than once as long as they aren’t soiled or dirty.

Anyways, this look was inspired from here.  I never thought to tuck my chambray in, but with a little inspiration, I tried it out, and I think I like it! I also used a skinny belt to “hold” the pants on. Also, not the typical choice for me. Normally I’d use skinny belts for the waist only. That’s another reason why I love pinterest, it opens your mind to new possibilities for your wardrobe!

All I did this past week was buy some jeans that fit, add a little pop by picking jeans with a leopard print (did I mention they were on clearance for 6.33?!), get some inspiration from pinterest, and I feel much better about my wardrobe.  A little investment in yourself goes a long way to a little joy.

Love,

Amanda.

the Grant life

Hello again, I’m back after a little break. I felt the Lord was calling me to take a little break to refocus on the family, my family that is. So worth it.

My joy has reemerged. Somehow I had lost focus and got more interested in “my own thing” that being a mom and wife was starting to feel a little humdrum. I’m a stay at home mom, so I figure I better really love this staying at home business, have joy, and make it a fun adventure.

This break allowed for me to be refilled with joy as I took more time to be “present” and spent less time on social media, and the computer. Asher’s laughter, being outside, making healthy time for myself…it was all wonderful.

Even down to my wardrobe… I was feeling like it was a little humdrum, stale, maybe tired. You know when you feel like you have nothing to wear?

I recently stumbled across a really inspiring blog, greater than rubies, where Caitlin spent a whole year using the same wardrobe she had, not spending a dime on it...and at one point, right when she felt tempted to complain about her wardrobe she decided to become inspired by pinterest. She also used style blogs for inspiration. Talk about a great way to reinvent your wardrobe. New outfits you never thought of come unearthed, and you didn’t have to spend a cent.

So here’s my outfits that were inspired from pinterest. Most of them just borrow elements and “structure” from my pinterest style board. I started with like items, sometimes a similar palette, but at other times I just borrowed the combination of x and y and ignored the palette altogether. It’s totally flexible!

( If your curious, here’s the inspiration pin)

Neutrals and mint!! (the source). This was about when I thought it would be fun to “copy” (or be inspired) by the pinterest poses. Get ready for some drama!

My mom would not enjoy my lack of smile here. haha. Here’s the pinspiration link.

If you’ll look at the inpiration for this photo you might be confused because it doesnt look a lot like it…I really just borrowed the boots and skirt combination, with a tucked in blouse. It’s very different look using the similar “structures.” Here’s the pin.

Letting my artsy self shine haha. I tried to take the photo through the screen of our back porch…I think I like how it turned out. Click here for the pinspiration. Also very different in color. I just borrowed the dress, with cover, belt, and tight idea.

What about you? Do you have any tricks, or ways you get out of a style rut (preferably without spending money)?

Lots of hugs, and love,

Amanda.

Welcome to my second week of showcasing what I wore all week. I believe in getting dressed as a stay at home mom, so this is a great way to keep me accountable. Plus it’s been helping me see what I’d like to add to my wardrobe so I’m not adding needless items.

This week,  I will be linking up with the Pleated Poppy.

I was not feeling oh so photogenic this day…but I liked how the more candid photo below turned out. I’ve decided candid photos are my fav. in general.

Have a wonderful day!

Amanda.

I love  the Pleated Poppy’s WIWW link up, and Copy Cat closet’s link up. The later inspires me to try new looks, and shop my wardrobe. The first helps me stay accountable to getting dressed in the morning. If I take a picture everyday I will be more apt to get dressed.

I really do believe in getting dressed. I think it’s a sad fact that more and more SAHM’s don’t get dressed…or rather, it’s become the custom for a lot of SAHM’s to stay in their pjs, or resort to yoga pants and a sweatshirt. Now, before I come across as too judgemental, I’d like to say that I love dressing comfortable, and I’m all about a lazy day in my pjs, uggs, and sweatshirt, but if I were to do that everyday I think I’d feel less productive.

I love clothing, and fashion, so It’s usually fun for me to get dressed, but I also like that when I do get dressed, I feel ready to face the day; to get out of the house, check the mail, answer the door, go on an adventure, go for a walk. You know it’s bad if you feel embarrassed to answer the door because you’re still in your pjs.

This custom of wearing pjs/sweats/yoga pants needs to stop everyone. Just this morning I felt God telling me I need to stop going along ”with the customs of this culture.” As tempting as it is to take the path of least resistance, I’m going to go against the crowd and get dressed every morning  day ( confession: I hate to admit it, but sometimes I still spend the early morning in my pjs, then shower and get dressed during the baby’s nap. I’d like to change that).

I say this to encourage y’all to go against the trend, but also for myself. Too often I’ve given in to the comments “who are you trying to impress?”. Or “It’s not like you have to go to work, so why bother with getting dressed?”

For a time I even thought wearing my pjs would even help me cut back on laundry. I’m serious, it’s easy to get caught up in attitude of not getting dressed when that’s the popular attitude toward (and often among) SAHMs, when really it doesn’t help yourself, and frankly, I’m not sure that it helps others.

I’m not advocating perfectionism, or a stepford wife mentality; just some dignity, and pride in the SAHM uniform. What do we all have to lose? We have productivity, improved self-esteem, and well-being to look forward to if we get dressed every morning.

Here’s what I wore:

The first picture is for Copy Cat Closet, where the fashion inspiration was neon. I love the idea of adding some life into the dreary palette of winter clothing. And if there’s any one thing I’ve been noticing about my wardrobe, is that it could use a little color and oomph. Most of my other outfits were inspired from this idea.

I know the neon’s not terribly obvious. It kind of cracks me up how subtle it is. This was honestly my only piece of neon in my wardrobe, but I still think it adds something nice.

My husband took these photos this past saturday. I think this is one of the few days I have more time to do my hair, and makeup a little nicer.

This looks like such a grunge look. Opps! I promise my midriff wasn’t suppose to be showing, and was only like that because of my hands! This was my Church outfit. Yikes…grace please!

I call this outfit “I don’t really want to get dressed look.” I was feeling REALLY tired that day, and just wanted to dress comfy. I stole the sweater from my hubby’s closet, belted it, threw a scarf on, grabbed some bright pants and rocked some boots. If ever I feel lazy, I just grab leggings, boots, and a comfy top as my go to.

I love that my little baby is getting into stuff. SO common when I’m getting dressed.

So that was my first attempt. As you can see, I still keep it casual, and comfy, but I’d like to keep pushing my wardrobe so it has more color and life. Hopefully this daily photo challenge will help me with that!

Happy Wednesday,

Amanda.

My husband gave me one saturday this month to just get out of the house and do some shopping. I took the opportunity to go thrift store shopping. I spent a total of $ 1.07 on a blazer and pokadot blouse. I probably shopped for an hour at the thrift store, but I am a new believer in them!

I should say I was expecting to spend about 8 dollars a piece but apparently there was an amazing sale on I had no prior knowledge of. Awesome!
