What I Wore

I've recently been inspired by Kendi Everyday's 30x30 remix challenge. The rules? Create 30 outfits, out of 30 pieces of clothing, for 30 days, using items already in your closet. Shoes and accessories don't count! Phew!

Scarf: Gap / Tank: Target / Belt: Target / Maxi Dress: Victoria Secret / Sneakers: Keds

I'm pregnant with baby number two, and my wardrobe is slowly but surely thinning out. 15 days is about what I can eek out right now, so 15x15 remix it is! In the mean time, this challenge should help me shop my wardrobe and stretch my pieces using accessories, and lots of creative mix and matching. I figure this will be a great way to really show myself what my wardrobe could use before I run out and go mindlessly crazy buying maternity clothing. Already from this challenge I feel like I could use some more statement earrings and necklaces. Accessories seem to be the trick to this mix and match game. Day2

Tunic: TJ Maxx / Belt: Target / Leggings: Old Navy Maternity / Flats: Reef

Day3

Tank: Old Navy Maternity / Jeans: Old Navy Maternity / Sandal: USMC Exchange

Day4

Dress: Old Navy Maternity / Necklace: American Eagle / Shoes: Toms

Day5

Sunglasses: Ralph Lauren / Chambray: Landsend Canvas / Tank: Old Navy Maternity / Belt: Landsend Canvas / Shorts: JC Penny / Shoes: Keds / Necklace: American Eagle

d5 I've been taking one day at time to avoid "worrying about what I'm going to wear." I haven't been painfully coordinating all the 15 pieces together, instead I've been picking out what I really want to wear for that day, and I'm more than confident God will take care of the rest! clothesPicsArt_1369248703373

Total pieces worn so far? 10. Ten days to go.

My plan is to post again for the next two wednesdays until I've completed this challenge. Come on back if you like, and have an enjoyable day!

Amanda.

If I had to describe my style in one word it would be comfortable. I think it also includes the words classic, feminine, with a little bit of rugged (note the plaid, and occasional carhartt).

I’d like to think joy and comfort go hand in hand, and make getting dress less of a pain and more of an ease. There’s no worry involved or fuss.

And when I dress comfortable I feel most like myself. That’s why leggings, riding boots, flats, and wedges call me home so often.

The picture taken is a prime example of my style. There’s comfort ( leggings, flannel, and a tank), but there’s also some of the feminine (necklace to add interest); black leggings are a classic, and so is plaid but it’s also kind of rugged.

Flannel: Walmart / Tank: Target / Necklace: American Eagle / Leggings: Old Navy

It felt so good wearing this outfit. I put hardly any thought into it, and didn’t care if it measured up to the Pinterest standard of fashion.

All this to say, I want this scripture passage to reflect my style:

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?” Matthew 6:28-30.

No worry, no laboring….afterall, it’s just clothing, right?

These pictures were taken on a day when I just wanted to be comfy, so I took some ques from my style board on pinterest, and layered-up with a chunky scarf. It’s just a regular knit scarf that I tied together at the ends and wrapped it around like a circle scarf two or three times to get the look.

I think it’s important to invest in your wardrobe; to take the time and some money to make it work for you, and make you feel your best. Saggy jeans have been one of my problems post-pregnancy. My sizes kept changing as I lost the weight slowly but surely…in fact, I lost so much weight that I became smaller post-pregnancy then I was before I got pregnant with Asher!

Chalk it up to breastfeeding a high-demand baby, exercising, and a high metabolism, and the weight just came off. In any case, I didn’t realize that for the past few months I was wearing jeans a size too big, which resulted in saggy pants 5 minutes after wearing them. Frustrating! And I don’t care how much skinny is “in”, when you have saggy jeans you don’t feel attractive.

In any case, I took the liberty, and tried on, and bought a couple nice fitting jeans from target this past weekend. I feel like it’s a little counterintuitive when I just found out I’m pregnant, but both pants should still be in style by the time I circle back to them. Gotta think positive, right? So here is one of the pairs…good old leopard print. The other pair aren’t shown, but they are just your regular white boot-cut jeans.

Sweater: American Eagle / Belt: Target / Purse: TJ Maxx / Wedges: TJ Maxx / Bible: Mine (off to church).

For some reason the print washed out against our white door, so I zoomed in on the right photo so you could be sure it is a leopard print!

Chambray: Landsend Canvas / Skinny Belt: Landsend Canvas / Jeans: Target / Boots: Landsend Canvas

The pants fit so tight they didn’t sag after one day, and they stayed clean, so I went ahead and wore them again. Sorry if that offends some people, but I’m personally in the ballpark of people who think it’s cool to wear some pieces more than once as long as they aren’t soiled or dirty.

Anyways, this look was inspired from here.  I never thought to tuck my chambray in, but with a little inspiration, I tried it out, and I think I like it! I also used a skinny belt to “hold” the pants on. Also, not the typical choice for me. Normally I’d use skinny belts for the waist only. That’s another reason why I love pinterest, it opens your mind to new possibilities for your wardrobe!

All I did this past week was buy some jeans that fit, add a little pop by picking jeans with a leopard print (did I mention they were on clearance for 6.33?!), get some inspiration from pinterest, and I feel much better about my wardrobe.  A little investment in yourself goes a long way to a little joy.

Love,

Amanda.

the Grant life

Hello again, I’m back after a little break. I felt the Lord was calling me to take a little break to refocus on the family, my family that is. So worth it.

My joy has reemerged. Somehow I had lost focus and got more interested in “my own thing” that being a mom and wife was starting to feel a little humdrum. I’m a stay at home mom, so I figure I better really love this staying at home business, have joy, and make it a fun adventure.

This break allowed for me to be refilled with joy as I took more time to be “present” and spent less time on social media, and the computer. Asher’s laughter, being outside, making healthy time for myself…it was all wonderful.

Even down to my wardrobe… I was feeling like it was a little humdrum, stale, maybe tired. You know when you feel like you have nothing to wear?

I recently stumbled across a really inspiring blog, greater than rubies, where Caitlin spent a whole year using the same wardrobe she had, not spending a dime on it...and at one point, right when she felt tempted to complain about her wardrobe she decided to become inspired by pinterest. She also used style blogs for inspiration. Talk about a great way to reinvent your wardrobe. New outfits you never thought of come unearthed, and you didn’t have to spend a cent.

So here’s my outfits that were inspired from pinterest. Most of them just borrow elements and “structure” from my pinterest style board. I started with like items, sometimes a similar palette, but at other times I just borrowed the combination of x and y and ignored the palette altogether. It’s totally flexible!

( If your curious, here’s the inspiration pin)

Neutrals and mint!! (the source). This was about when I thought it would be fun to “copy” (or be inspired) by the pinterest poses. Get ready for some drama!

My mom would not enjoy my lack of smile here. haha. Here’s the pinspiration link.

If you’ll look at the inpiration for this photo you might be confused because it doesnt look a lot like it…I really just borrowed the boots and skirt combination, with a tucked in blouse. It’s very different look using the similar “structures.” Here’s the pin.

Letting my artsy self shine haha. I tried to take the photo through the screen of our back porch…I think I like how it turned out. Click here for the pinspiration. Also very different in color. I just borrowed the dress, with cover, belt, and tight idea.

What about you? Do you have any tricks, or ways you get out of a style rut (preferably without spending money)?

Lots of hugs, and love,

Amanda.

Welcome to my second week of showcasing what I wore all week. I believe in getting dressed as a stay at home mom, so this is a great way to keep me accountable. Plus it’s been helping me see what I’d like to add to my wardrobe so I’m not adding needless items.

This week,  I will be linking up with the Pleated Poppy.

I was not feeling oh so photogenic this day…but I liked how the more candid photo below turned out. I’ve decided candid photos are my fav. in general.

I love that I can make this dress into a skirt by adding a t-shirt or tank…I always fool everyone.
